Some things in life are complex. Desks, for example.
Other things are simple. Mozy Remote Backup, for example. Download Mozy, answer a few simple questions, install, and Mozy will back your files up forever and ever amen.
Oh, you can make it more complicated if you want to. You can tell Mozy what kind of files to back up, schedule backups to run at the most convenient times for you or let Mozy choose idle moments, instruct Mozy to use more or less band width, or upgrade to MozyPro and keep your fingers on the pulse of your entire organization. If you like to be in charge, and don’t want some computer telling you what to do, there are plenty of ways to assert your individuality.
But the basic deal is that Mozy will back up your files automatically, up to 2GB for free, and unlimited for $4.95 a month. I use it for all my business and personal computers and it is money well spent.
The Pros
- Did I already mention that Mozy backs up your files, automatically, for free or for a very low price?
- Did I mention the automatic part?
- Did I mention the price?
- Restoring a file is a breeze, I’ve tried it myself and it saved me a few times (don’t ask).
The Cons
- You need high speed internet. But who doesn’t have that?
- File-sharing is not part of the Mozy service.
- Its so easy you might forget that you have it installed. Don’t worry, you’ll remember when you accidentally overwrote that excel file you desperately need.
The Conclusion
Mozy’s worth the money. Especially the free version. And especially if you can’t rely on yourself to back up religiously.
